Which should you rent?
Both cards carry 24 GB, so capacity is not what decides this one. The RTX 4090 supports FP8 and the RTX 3090 does not, which roughly halves the memory a quantised model needs and is the largest practical difference between the two. Bandwidth is 1.01 TB/s against 936 GB/s, and for single-stream token generation it is bandwidth that sets the speed, not the FLOPS figure on the spec sheet. The RTX 4090 costs 70% more per month, $390 against $230, or $0.54 against $0.32 per GPU-hour.
